Rapid Growth is a proprietary blend of High Quality Carbohydrates and Whey Protein Concentrate designed for individuals who want to maximise muscle nutrition and weight gain.
In order to maximise gains in lean muscle mass, it is advised that exercise and nutritional strategies be implemented that promote protein synthesis and minimise protein breakdown (2). Research has shown that when minimum 35g of carbohydrate is consumed in conjunction with 6g of essential amino acids before (4) and after resistance training (3), protein synthesis is increased to a greate degree than resistance training alone. Rapid Growth contains 51g of carbohydrate and 6.9g of essential amino acids per serve.
There are many different types of protein and different proteins are absorbed at different rates. Proteins that are digested and absorbed quickly differ in their physiological effects from those that are digested and absorbed more slowly. Rapid Growth contains whey protein, which is classified as a fast protein because it results in a rapid increase in plasma amino acid concentrations shortly after ingestion (1). This maximises the rate at which amino acids reach the muscle during and after exercise. Rapid Growth has also been formulated to contain high glycaemic index carbohydrates, which stimulate the release of the hormone insulin (5). Insulin is a hormone that may reduce muscle breakdown after exercise (4) and stimulate muscle protein synthesis when adequate amino acids are available (6). Therefore the combination of high GI carbohydrates with a rapidly absorbed protein will create a physiological environment that simultaneously reduces muscle breakdown while stimulating muscle protein synthesis. The high glycaemic index carbohydrates in Rapid Growth may also facilitate glycogen replenishment in the muscle, enhancing recovery and allowing for higher training intensities to be maintained.
Rapid Growth is designed to simultaneously increase blood glucose, insulin and amino acid concentrations rapidly after ingestion. This creates an optimal physiological environment that will maximise gains in lean muscle associated with resistance training.
Rapid Growth is based on research that has shown this ratio of carbohydrate to Whey Protein rich in Essential Amino Acids to be highly effective at stimulating muscle protein synthesis during and after resistance training (3,4).
