Australian businesses encouraged to work together and reap the benefits
A partnership forged between two Australian small businesses is adding further truth to the old adage that ‘success breeds success’.
Top Australian sport and lifestyle supplement company, Body Science (BSc), and well known sunglass company, Mako, joined forces as ‘athletic partners’ earlier this year and have since been reaping the benefits in sales, image and brand recognition.
The businesses are now encouraging other small business operators to follow suit and establish partnerships as a way of fuelling further growth and success.
Body Science Director Greg Young said there is plenty of synergy between the two businesses, both of which are committed to the provision of innovative products and services of the highest quality.
“Given the fact that BSc and Mako are targeting very similar markets and we are both focused on a high level of service delivery, it seemed logical that we should work together for each company’s benefit,” Greg said.
“Operating a small business is never easy, but developing links with companies like Mako, where synergies exist, provides opportunities for each company to tap into the other’s network, skills and knowledge.
“Our partnership works because our products are complementary – athletes (from professionals to weekend joggers) use the BSc range to take care of the internal aspects of performance, while Mako looks after external aspects.
“Another aspect of performance that is often overlooked is also reflected in our products – looking good.
“BSc and Mako understand that our customers want to look good while they are performing. If you look good, you feel good and this is reflected in your performance.
“Our products are therefore function and fashion at their best – another reason why the partnership has been successful to date.”
But the companies warn against jumping straight into a partnership without first doing your homework and ensuring a potential partner is reputable and has a strong code of ethics.
“Image is everything in business, “ Greg said.
“Do not take up the first partnership offer you receive. Instead, do some research, and don’t be afraid to ask questions – you potential partners should be doing the same with you.
“Your image will be a reflection of your partner’s, and vice versa, so you can’t afford to make mistakes.”
"Established just two years ago, Body Science has already established itself as one of the major players in the Australian supplement industry, grabbing a large share of the Australian market from more established brands. It supports athletes throughout Australia, though the logo is most often seen on the uniforms of the nation’s top NRL teams such as 2002 Premiers the Sydney Roosters and this season’s most improved team, the Canberra Raiders.
