Body Science Xtreme Athlete Scott Gange Update
By: Scott Gange

02-07-2007
Just an update of my last season. The New Zealand National Team headed off to Cooper Mountain on the 5th November to train with the American and Austran National teams. Then in December we headed up to Canada for the race series. I placed 5th and 6th in the Canadain cup which saw me qualify for World Champs in February in Sweden.
Returning back down south for a sunny Christmas and 3 weeks training we then headed of to Austria on the 15th January where we joined up with the Aussie team in Austria. Unfortunately I made a mistake whilst training and ruptured my L5, S1 disc. Couldn't walk for 3 weeks. With help from the team physio I was able to get to World Champs.
We headed up to Sweden on the 9th February and as my events were not till the 18th I hoped that I still could make it. The opening cermony was fantastic. Did some training a few days before my event and the coaches gave me the all clear for a start. Placed 29th in the 1st run which qualified me for 2nd run. Only the top 30 qualify for second run out of a starting list of 140 competitors. Unfortunately my back gave out and I was sent to hospital instead of starting 2nd in the second run.
After an horrendous return trip to New Zealand I was sent to Australia to consult a leading back surgeon who operated on my back 9 weeks ago, removing a large segment of ruptured disc about the size of a 50 cent coin from my lower back.
It's going to be along recovery and they do not expect me back on snow till around December. Working hard with the physios in Sydney at present and hope to return home to NZ in August as I cannot travel as yet.
This still gives me time to get back into shape for the 2009 World Champs and 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. I also have been announced onto the New Zealand National Team for 2008.
I have been put on injury status and my world ranking will come back and be frozen for a years duration from July.
I am taking time to start my university degree and to take the time to forcus on my goals for the coming years.

The Body Science compression garments - especially the athletic longs and Melibol & RegenR8 are being utilised in a big way. Speaking of way (whey), I am pushing Recovery Protein as 2 meals a day. Keep up the good work boys!

Kind regards
Scott Gange
