Melba BMX Club was the host of round 4 of the UCI World Ranking series and also the ACT Championships this past weekend in Canberra. With over 650 riders from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US, it was for sure going to give us some exciting racing. The weather was perfect on race day and the track was in great condition which featured 3 concrete corners. Here is how the championship unfolded for TeamWBR.
Bootes was looking strong all day against the UCI Elite Men field on Saturday and found himself lined up in the final beside 2 times World Champion Kyle Bennett from the USA. Bootes and Bennett had a great start which seen Bennett just taking the lead into the first corner. Going into the third corner Bennet was still leading Bootes and the rest of the field were close behind but then Bennett washed out in a very tricky/high-speed concrete "S" bend taking down most of the field. Madill avoided the carnage and took line honours with Gray and Fenwick in toe.
Coverage of this race will be seen on Cycling Central on SBS, so make sure you check out your TV guide.
