QLD Reds - sponsored by Body Science - make three changes for Crusaders match
By: QLD Reds

14-02-2006
The QR Queensland Reds have made three changes to their team for Saturday’s clash with defending champions the Crusaders at Suncorp Stadium, kick-off 7.05pm.

Scans to Tim Atkinson, Nic Berry and skipper Joe Roe revealed grade two medial ligament strains which will keep the trio out of the team for four to six weeks.

The injuries have meant an early recall to the team for Josh Valentine from a knee reconstruction after a career threatening injury to cover for Berry. Atkinson’s injury has handed teenage speedster Caleb Brown his first Super 14 cap. He will start on the bench with Veratau stepping up to the starting line up.

The absence of Roe has forced coach Jeff Miller to shuffle his forward pack. Mitchell Chapman will play No. 8, meaning Hugh McMeniman will switch to blindside flanker and James Horwill makes his run-on debut at lock.

Cameron Treloar, who was on standby for Mark Connors last week, will get his first cap on the bench.

Veteran fullback Chris Latham has been named captain for the match.

Veratau is the only change to the backline with Miller sticking with the combination of Sam Cordingley and Berrick Barnes in the halves and Elton Flatley and Julian Huxley in the centres.
