Body Science's Craig Alexander and Michelle Dillon win Body Science Gold Coast Triathlon - EcoAde (Official Sports Drink Sponsor)
By: Shane Smith

21-03-2005
Craig Alexander and Great Britain’s Michelle Dillon both had comfortable wins at the inaugural Body Science Gold Coast Triathlon held at the Robina Town Centre.

Alexander exited the water just ten seconds behind swim leader Yamamoto Ryosuke of Japan, with his main rivals Olivier Marceau and Brad Kadefelt only metres ahead of him as they exited Lake Lido after the 1500 metre swim.

It didn’t take Alexander long to stamp his authority on the event, making a break with young Gold Coast athlete Nathan Campbell during the 40km bike ride. The pair entered the bike-to-run transition just seconds apart but their time gains on the other elite competitors saw them begin the 10km run with a comfortable lead of over a minute.
Kadefelt and Marceau left transition together with Stuart Hayes of Great Britain close by. However, once onto the run no one was going to catch Alexander who produced the fastest run time of the day to comfortably win from Campbell by 48 seconds. Third place went to Kadefelt who finished just 4 seconds ahead of Hayes.

Great Britain’s Olympic representative Michelle Dillon produced a dominating performance, taking the win from Switzerland’s Miriam Moser by 4 minutes and 34 seconds. Dillon exited the water 15 seconds behind Moser but a fast bike ride saw Dillon gain the lead early on the bike. Known for her outstanding running ability, Dillon produced the fastest run of the day, 37:08, to close out the race in first position.

The Body Science Gold Coast triathlon was part of the national Point Selection race series and over 300 athletes attended in an attempt to accumulate points for the World Championships to be held in Hawaii on October 8 and 9, 2005.
