Adam Lucas and Eamon Sullivan NSW Open Swimming Champs

Perth based Olympians Adam Lucas and Eamon Sullivan gave a good account of themselves during a flying visit to the
NSW Open Swimming Champs February 18-20 held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. The Body Science sponsored swimmers were using this meet as their last competitive hit-out before the World Championship trials in less than a month at the same venue. Twenty-one year-old Lucas easily won his specialty events, the 200m and 400m individual medley, and took the bronze in the 50m breaststroke. Sullivan, the youngest male member of the swim team in Athens, who has only been back in full training for two weeks after a hip operation in early January showed encouraging form. The 19-year-old finished third behind three-time Olympian and former world record-holder Michael Klim in the 100m freestyle and second behind Olympic sprint finalist Brett Hawke in the 50m freestyle and butterfly. The National Championships run 12-19 March.

Also of note at the meet was the performance of Adam's 15-year-old sister Amy who won her first Open event, taking out the 200m backstroke in a PB 2:15.03, getting past Olympic silver medallist Kirsten Thompson in the final lap. Adam will not confirm or deny his sister has been getting into his BSc supplies in recent weeks!
