By: Swimming Australia

19-01-2005
Olympian Jim Piper has started the year with a bang in Stockholm overnight, setting a new Commonwealth record in the final of the 200 metres breaststroke on day one of the FINA World Cup.

Piper finished second to world record holder Ed Moses (USA) clocking 2:05.70 – taking almost a full second off his previous best mark of 2:06.61, set in Berlin in 2002.

The 22-year-old former Sydneysider, made a move to Perth to train alongside his best mate & Body Science sponsored athlete, Adam Lucas after Athens, under respected coach Grant Stoelwinder at West Coast.

BSc sponsored, Lucas also had an impressive swim, clocking a personal best time of 4:10.19 to finish second in the 400m individual medley (4th all-time Australian).

The 21-year-old Athens Olympian also finished fourth in the 400m freestyle in another personal best time of 3:45.67 and fifth in the 100m IM in 55.41 – a race which saw South African Olympic gold medallist Roland Schoeman smash the world record in a time of 52.51.
